Our Environmental Policy Statement

Woodside Cottages” has made a commitment to ensure that its operations take into account the possible impact on the environment.

It will work towards:

• Ensuring that all relevant Environmental Legislation and Regulation is applied
• Reducing Energy Usage by increased energy efficiency
• Using raw materials in a manner that reduces waste
• Re-using or recycling waste when possible
• Purchasing environmentally friendly materials when appropriate
• Raising the awareness of staff so that everyone may be involved
• Operating the business in an environmentally sensitive manner

So what does this mean in practical terms?

• We use low energy light bulbs wherever possible.
• We have very high levels of insulation in walls, around pipes and in the loft - saving energy.
• Our brochure is downloadable from the internet saving paper use.
• Category A efficiency appliances are used throughout helping to reduce energy use.
• Recycled paper is used in our office and for house keeping.
• We provide information on local food producers like butchers and local farmers markets. We encourage guests to sample the regional specialities as part of their holiday, cutting down on food miles and boosting the local economy.
• We recycle glass, paper and cardboard as well as composting garden and kitchen waste (or feeding it to our goats!). This reduces the amount of waste going to landfill.
• We provide a wealth of information on walking and cycling in the area, which encourages our guests to be more physically active as well as enjoy the natural environment.
• We use phosphate and chlorine free cleaners. Eco cleaners generally bio-degrade quickly and completely and have minimum impact on aquatic life.
• Our heating system supplies hot water on demand – no hot water storage (with associated heat loss)
• The refurbishment of our cottages was carried out using timber from renewable sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and other materials from suppliers promoting strong "green" credentials.
